FAQ

How often should you water African spear?

It’s a hardy succulent that hails from the tropics of Angola. To best emulate its homeland indoors, keep these plants warm, pot them in free-draining soil and allow them to dry out between waterings. In summer, water weekly and feed with fertiliser; in winter, reduce watering to every four-to-six weeks.

Do African spear plants like to be root bound?

African spear plants can thrive being root-bound in a pot. If you’re growing your plant in a container, you likely won’t have to repot it more than every few years once the roots start noticeably growing out of the pot. Move it just to one container size up, as its roots still will like being a little cramped.

Why is my African spear turning yellow?

Yellowing leaves on a pear tree can be a red flag for nutrient deficiencies. Nitrogen deficiency typically causes older leaves to yellow first, as the tree prioritizes new growth. Iron shortage will have your youngest leaves looking pale and sickly. Magnesium plays it cool, leaving a yellow pattern between green veins.
